Field Trips

Young dragonfly hunters. photo by RC GrimsleyThe Lamprey River Curriculum suggests a comprehensive field trip for fourth grade classes. These trips are usually led by the teacher or school using the curriculum, but the committee is happy to help with specific topics or river sections. In addition, the committee also has two established guided field trips for students and the general public:

  • The "Dragonflies and Aquatic Invertebrates" program takes participants to the river in summer to find and learn about freshwater mussels, dragonflies, and other aquatic insects.
  • "Vernal Pools" takes participants into the woods in springtime to document these temporary pools that are easily overlooked but that are critical to a number of rare amphibians and turtles.
